(This is a cross post from my main space of dispatches, but I am managing multiple places where not everyone is everywhere so if you received this twice I apologize.)
I said yes despite it being a bit tricky for me to get away from life to go to Europe to visit with friends and new cities and it’s been the space I needed to allow my brain to breathe.
I want for more time away, but I’ll take all that I can get. These are some things I’m loving or thinking about lately. In no particular order.
The true labor of building liberatory frameworks and communities off of social media, off of what we read about liberation, in the real world in other words. The oppotunities to practice liberatory frameworks arise in our daily lives at every moment. There are opportunities to push past our triggers, to say yes when we would have said no, to say no when we normally say yes, to re-examine everything about what we have been taught about living under capitalism, money, work, and our complicity in everything.
This book is really great for all of point (1). Many conversations I’m having with people are reminding me of this book. Many concepts around resistance, community, taking care of each other, and looking beyond Western frameworks to save us show up in it. On how we actually do this thing called world-building amongst the potential collapse of the old ways. https://www.commonnotions.org/everything-for-everyone

Pieces of this poem. A house that looks like your laugh | Nasser Rabah

You’re the one who sat my heart on your knees the day it was a bird, and on your shoulders when it was a rifle, and you didn’t throw it in the river even when my heart became stone. Father, oh shadow of the only tree in the palm of the road,
the road whose tears were allotted to passers-by in complete fairness,
the road whose vagrancy no one but me traversed.

I know you were a soldier the day I was born, but why did you carry me like a rifle?

On my walk today I found this beautiful vine covered round building on the edge of a park in Copenhagen. Turns out it is the Museum of Danish Resistance in which you can do things like:
What to see at the museum
Go underground in the German-occupied Denmark of the 1940s and experience the Danish resistance fight.
In the shadowy streets of the occupation, you will meet five historical people, who each in their own way chose a side during the harsh resistance fight during World War II. You will gain a unique insight into their difficult choices and dilemmas.
You can have a go at printing illegal magazines, intercept phone calls and break the Germans’ Enigma code.
It’s always interesting that countries can state ideals like “Denmark supports the creation of a sovereign, democratic, and peaceful Palestinian state.” and build beautiful remembrances to the specific resistance struggles of their own peoples, but we cannot or will not recognize a decades-long resistance movement when it comes to certain folks. I guess it’s good that resistance is being reframed to be necessary within human civilizations but if it’s all just talk and beautiful buildings, truly what are we doing?
Palestine is the litmus test to all our so-called values. “COPENHAGEN, May 28 (Reuters) - Denmark's parliament rejected a proposal to recognise a Palestinian state on Tuesday, backing the government's view that the necessary conditions were not in place, despite a decision by Spain, Ireland and Norway to endorse independence.”
